Ignition barrels and door locks
Vehicle ignition barrels and door locks can be difficult to turn at times. That can be due to a worn key or wear in the lock itself. Locks are sometimes easily replaced with one or 2 fasteners. Other times changing the ignition lock is more complex, requiring removal of the steering wheel and airbag etc.

We can perform non destructive entry to most vehicles. We do not bend the doors open and stick a coat hanger. Most modern vehicles can deadlock which will defeat the old fashioned coat hanger trick anyway. We open vehicles without resorting to force. (Although if your locks are broken there may be no other option). If you’ve locked your keys in your car or the boot anywhere near Ross on Wye, Monmouth, Forest of Dean etc then give us a call.
For an auto locksmith to open your vehicle will be a lot less hassle than if you smash your own window and have to replace it. By all means watch YouTube for how to open your car door with a tennis ball or a potato, but you’ll feel pretty silly when you’re still haven’t got in 3 hours later.
Car key and remotes
The price depends on the exact year, make, model of the vehicle. Also the type of remote you have and whether you need a remote or just a chipped (transponder key). Send your VRN and ask for a quote is the best idea.
Why are car keys and remotes so expensive compared to a house key? It’s because of the anti-theft devices built into the car. Modern cars have immobilisers to make it more difficult to steal the car. The keys have a transponder inside. Unless the immobiliser recognises the correct transponder chip the vehicle will not start. Whilst the metal part of the key can easily be copied (or the lock smashed off), the immo/transponder are more difficult to bypass.
A remote to suit a VW T5 Transporter is currently £85 for most pre 2012 models. Call or message for a quote for other makes/models. Citroen Relay, Peugeot Boxer remotes and keys can be replaced in genuine and aftermarket versions.

Should you bother getting a spare car key? That’s up to you. It will probably be much more expensive once you’ve lost all existing keys. If you’re careful you might never need it (hopefully). Getting a spare cut and programmed can save you a lot of cost and drama. Some vehicles can be 5-10x more expensive to get a new key once you’ve lost all keys.
